Netherlands | First Diplomas of Certified Financing Advisor for SMEs Awarded by State Secretary Mona Keijzer
On June 10th 2021, State Secretary Mona Keijzer awarded the first certificates of Certified Financing Adviser for SMEs. This is an important moment for SME entrepreneurs in general and financing advisors in particular.
Kevin van Kempen and Tom Baerends were the first two to receive the sought-after diplomas. By obtaining this diploma, consisting of a theory exam and practical exam, they meet the requirements of knowledge, experience and integrity set by Stichting MKB Financiering (SMF) for providing reliable, sound and healthy financial advice to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Mona Keijzer, State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Climate, says:
“Small and small business entrepreneurs have a large financing need, whether that is to get through difficult times or to grow. The quality mark Certified Financing Advice SME makes it easier for entrepreneurs to find the right advisor who can help them with this. Good advice means a greater chance of financing and therefore more space to do business. That is good for them and therefore for our economy as a whole.”
By the end of 2021: 200 advisors with quality mark
Given the current Covid-19 period, the quality mark and the Certified Financing Advisers SME come at the right time. With a growing financing and liquidity need among entrepreneurs and an increasing number of providers of money, it is important that companies can rely on qualified, independent and sound financing advice and guidance. At the moment, 48 financing advisors are preparing for the exams and it is expected that by the end of 2021, 200 financing advisors will have obtained the diploma and can call themselves Certified Financing Advisor SME.

“With 200 accredited advisors at the end of this year, a major professionalization is being made in the field of financing advice.”

The SME Financing Foundation (Dutch: Stichting MKB Financiering, SMF) has worked together with various stakeholders in the market on the development and setting up of the quality mark Certified Financing Advice for SMEs. Without SMF, it would not have been possible to establish the quality mark. This indicates that the market parties in the financing advice are open to further developments and professionalization of the SME financing profession.
